Submitting Books & Films FOR Review

Mandate

Our mandate is to review books that focus on important current political, economic and social issues throughout Asia and the Pacific. Pacific Affairs only accepts books for review that were published in the preceding two years. 

We do NOT accept:

  • textbooks
  • reference materials
  • works of fiction or literary analysis
  • fine art books
  • books where the main chronological coverage pre-dates 1900

As an area-studies journal, we are focused on the Pacific Rim region. Namely:

  • Asia General (books that cover more than one Asian country)
  • China and Inner Asia (including Mongolia, Tibet)
  • Northeast Asia (Japan, North and South Korea)
  • South Asia (India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Kashmir, Nepal)
  • Southeast Asia (Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia)
  • Australasia and the Pacific Islands (Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Papua New Guinea, Micronesia)

The focus of the subjects must be 1900s to present day. The areas include:

  • Political Science
  • Economics
  • Politics and International Relations
  • Media and Communications
  • Environment
  • Development Studies
  • Military, Strategic, and Security Studies
  • Planning and Urban Design
  • Women and Gender Studies
  • Other – public health, migration, etc.

We ONLY review books and documentary films published or released within the previous 2 years.

We do not review second (or third) editions unless there have been major changes.

Disclaimer: While we make every effort to review all books sent to us that are within our purview we cannot guarantee all books will be reviewed.
